Apple Vision Pro is expensive and far from the best, but it is amazing and is transforming mobile phone usage and entertainment
Apple Vision Pro is an amazing product with beautiful 3D videos as well as a futuristic face and hand tracking interface and incredible AR app. This is also a great way to expand your Mac. However, there are some performance issues that need to be resolved early; the battery can interfere with this and digital signage is a bit scary and needs work.
Apple Vision Pro is a magnificent technology that creates competition with its eye and hand tracking interface. But the revolution brings with it some early bugs and some weird stuff, including weird digital versions of yourself that can appear in FaceTime calls.
Vision Pro starts at $3,500, which is incredibly expensive. Only for the early rich. But this is the most innovative product Apple has created in over a decade, combining the future of computing and entertainment into one true product. Here’s my usage so far and my pros and cons.
What is this? Spatial computing headset combining augmented reality and virtual reality
Who is it suitable for? Those who love to work, enjoy 3D entertainment, take photos and videos, and business travelers
How much is the price? $3,499 plus additional storage and accessories
What does Apple Vision Pro do? Show off your Mac by viewing, using and docking multiple apps, shooting and viewing 3D photos and videos, watching 3D movies, experiencing AR apps, playing games
Long battery life How long is it? 2 to 2.5 hours
Apple Vision Pro is now available for pre-order with a February 2 release date.
This headset can track your eyes with surprising accuracy, but its price starts at $3,499. The entry model comes with 256GB of storage, 512GB of storage costs $3,699 and 1TB of storage costs $3,899.
Sunglasses? The Zeiss fiber optic add-on for the card reader is $99, and the writing lenses are $149, but I like that they easily attach magnetically to the Vision Pro. For an additional $499, Apple Care+ will give you 2 years of unlimited repairs and damage prevention.
When it comes to accessories, there are plenty of options, but the top offering for me is a bulky, large travel bag that costs $199. It’s bulky but will protect the Vision Pro while flying or commuting to the office. Other accessories include Belkin’s battery holder, which sells for $49, an Individual, Light Seal, Light Sealed pad that fits your face, and Solo mesh straps and Dual loop straps.
There’s also an Apple Vision Pro battery that’s always connected to the headset, a second face mask, a polishing cloth, and a 30W USB-C power adapter.
< Apple Vision Pro is the best headset yet, with a curved glass front and design that makes it ideal for user customization. But never adjust it. After 30 minutes I felt it pressing on my cheeks.
When you order Vision Pro, you’ll scan your face to get a personalized light seal that prevents light from entering your field of vision (similar to how you set up Face ID).
Vision Pro comes with two straps. There is one looped knit hanger and two looped hangers. The former is both flexible and easy to put on and take off the Vision Pro, and you can quickly loosen it using the button.
Two rings provide better security because there are straps on the head and back. I find this product better for longer Vision Pro sessions as there is more support for heavier headphones.
The Vision Pro weighs 1.3 to 1.4 pounds (depending on light isolation and headband configuration), which is better than wearing an 11-inch iPad Pro on your head. For context, the Meta Quest 3 weighs 1.1 pounds, while the Meta Quest Pro weighs 1.6 pounds.
After wearing the Vision Pro for several hours at various times, I experienced no discomfort but felt like I was constantly resting due to the weight. I also have red spots on my cheeks.
On the right side of the Vision Pro is a digital camera that brings up the main screen wherever you are. Turning the crown increases access to what you’re looking at (more on that later) and also controls the volume. The button on the left side of the headset is the top button, which you can use to both take photos and videos of the scene and confirm the purchase.
I like the design of Vision Pro. The Light Seal and Light Seal pads attach magnetically to the device, and the two straps can be easily swapped by pulling the small orange tab. But I would say the magnetic pull could be a little stronger; When I picked up the Vision Pro, the bulb went out a few times. So you’d better use a metal and glass frame to hold it.
Apple Vision Pro is so easy to use that it’s revolutionary. No controller comes. Simply use your eyes to find the item you want to select, then touch your thumb and index finger together to “click.”
When setting up Vision Pro, I quickly got used to these ideas once you went through the calibration process, which involved tracking and selecting dots around the screen. You’ll then see a home screen with iOS-like icons floating in front of the view of the room you’re in.
Vision OS uses your perception of the real world as a basis because Vision Pro wants to bring digital content into your environment, not on top of it. Video transmission is fantastic because the high-end R1 chip is fast enough to send the image to the Vision Pro’s microOLED display in just 12 milliseconds; This is eight times faster than the eye.
Although the frame rate on my iPhone 14 Pro Max was a little slow, I had no problems walking from room to room or using my iPhone with Vision Pro on.
When you look at the home screen and move your eyes from one icon to another, the lights come on for selection. This is a very interesting, effortless and easy process because Vision Pro has a front camera that monitors your hand on your lap.
It’s easy to laugh at the Apple Vision Pro because of its price. There’s no way I’m paying $3,500 for one. But now that I’ve worn one and tested all its features, I think it’s Apple’s newest product since the first iPhone.
The crazy intelligence of the shaver is here – the smart microOLED display and ultra-realistic video deliver an intuitive and very entertaining experience that follows your eyes and hands. I’m also happy with the PC experience because getting to the next level requires a lot of work, especially when you add a Mac.
When it comes to entertainment, Vision Pro’s 3D video experience is second to none, and unique video has the potential to change the way we look at everything from a concert to a football match on the road. The beauty of 3D is also the location of moving images and images that transform your memory into something hyper-real.
Developments on the Vision Pro app are still in their early stages and are missing several critical features at launch. But the AR apps I’ve tried are great and I hope it encourages more developers to get involved.
So what’s not to like about Vision Pro? The high price is huge because it will limit the initial appeal of this headset. Some may want to wait for rumors of lower prices to come out soon, but there’s no time yet. I also find the attached batteries annoying at times, and the human characters, while admirable, are a bit annoying to watch. I hope they get better after the trial period.
So my conclusion about the Vision Pro is that it is a complete change, but a change in progress.
